TRACING MOVEMENT, PRESERVING IDENTITY

Tracing Movement - EN(2)

International Group Exhibition at Pashmin Art Gallery Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany — From 17 October to 6 November 2026, Pashmin Art Gallery Hamburg presents TRACING MOVEMENT, PRESERVING IDENTITY, an international group exhibition featuring Zhang Dawo (China), Willem Vos (Netherlands), Christian Autzen (Germany), and Christine Hallof (Sweden).

The exhibition brings together calligraphic abstraction, expressive figuration, contemporary portraiture, and fluid abstraction to explore identity as something shaped by movement, memory, and cultural passage.

Zhang Dawo (1943-2023), an influential figure in modern Chinese calligraphy whose work is represented in the British Museum, transformed brush and ink into a language of gesture and abstraction. His works preserve the energy of movement while carrying traces of cultural memory and displacement.

Dutch painter Willem Vos works between abstraction and figuration, allowing faces and forms to emerge from layered surfaces. His paintings explore vulnerability, hope, connection, and transformation through an intuitive process of building and revealing.

Hamburg-based artist Christian Autzen combines portraiture, abstraction, and material experimentation. His large-scale works often incorporate gold, rust, and patina, using familiar faces and cultural references to examine memory, identity, and contemporary visual culture.

Swedish artist Christine Halloff works with watercolour and coloured pencil to create flowing, organic structures inspired by geological and biological forms. Her transparent washes and branching lines make movement central to both process and image.

Together, the four artists present identity as something continuously traced rather than fixed.

Curated by Nour Nouri, the exhibition opens on Saturday, 17 October 2026 at 19:00, with an art lecture by Dr. Davood Khazaie.
