Reinhard Hanke

Reinhard Hanke, born in 1951 in Bad Oeynhausen, discovered his passion for the visual arts at an early age. In 1969 he enrolled at the Braunschweig University of Art, where he studied painting under Professor Voigt and graphic art and sculpture with Professor Pilgrim. Concurrently, he pursued studies in philosophy, perceptual psychology, communication theory, and art history.

During his academic career, Hanke developed a style he calls “structural realism,” which examines the relationship between visual perception and the underlying structures of reality. His work moves fluidly between abstraction and figuration, inviting viewers to engage intellectually with themes such as the human condition, perception, and the nature of reality.

After completing his studies, Hanke taught art at various schools and presented his work in solo exhibitions across Germany—from Bremen to Mainz. Critics and audiences alike praised his paintings for their depth and complex symbolism.

A severe stroke later in life threatened his speech and cognitive abilities. Yet art became his path to recovery: by painting and discussing his own work, he gradually regained both his voice and his mental agility.

Reinhard Hanke’s journey stands as a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative, healing power of art. His legacy endures in the works he created and in the inspiration his story continues to provide.

His next exhibition will take place from 31.05. – 08.06.2025 at the Ring-Theater Amberg.
