Pashmin Art Gallery is proud to present ZHANG DAWO’S latest solo exhibition, “From Calligraphy to Abstract Expressionism.” This exhibition will showcase a collection of Zhang’s most recent works, highlighting his unique fusion of traditional Chinese calligraphy and contemporary abstract art. The exhibition will run from May 13th to May 27th, 2023.
DAWO’s works can be seen as an example of the metamorphosis of traditional calligraphy into contemporary art. His works, inspired by calligraphy, moving towards modern penmanship and reaching the essence of nature, can be a source of inspiration for us to conceive a different modernity of art.
His brushstrokes pass through the mirror of tradition to reflect the contemporary world and boundless vitality. He creates a kind of true freedom and growth of life. With such a dance of pen and ink between heaven and earth, he has taken the Chinese ink XIAN (线) to the extreme and reaches the depth and majesty of life.
In addition to numerous book publications, articles in international art magazines and specialist literature, DAWO’s artworks are a permanent fixture at the British Museum in London.
The exhibition will be presented by Christine Adler, an actress and lecturer known for her love of art and culture. The opening lecture will be given by Dr. Davood Khazaie, a literary art critic and the international curator of Pashmin Art. ZHANG DAWO himself will also be present to welcome guests, share his thoughts on his latest works and to spend an unforgettable convivial art evening with you in Bad Tölz.
