“To practice unreality is the most difficult and essential task for an artist” – quote by Lovis Corinth

From February 11, 2023, for three weeks, the Pashmin Art Gallery Bad Tölz presents three emerging artists with their masterful artworks that deal with the aspect of unreality.

At the beginning of the 20th century, two creative movements emerged that questioned conventional standards and aimed to escape everyday reality – abstract art and surrealism. Abstract art wanted to distance itself from traditional art, while surrealist art wanted to escape rational thinking. Both thus pursued a common goal: to free themselves from familiar norms.

When most people think of painting, they probably imagine images that realistically depict the world around us. But what if we looked at things through a different lens – literally and figuratively? This is where abstract and surrealist painting comes in. Abstract painting can be defined as an image that represents a concept or feeling rather than reality. Often, it is shapes, colors, and textures that are meant to evoke a feeling in the viewer. Surrealism goes one step further by incorporating elements of the unreal or impossible into otherwise normal scenes.

All three artists in this group exhibition prove how experimenting with genres offers a great way to unleash creativity and take the viewer on an inspirational journey into unreality.

Victor Hagea

Victor Hagea creates artworks with the impact of a three-act drama. In his works, we look behind the scenes of a mythical and ancient production. The surrealist works create a new dimension of painting that goes beyond any physicality and will captivate every viewer in wonder.

Andrea Donner

In the works of artist Andrea Donner, the viewer will find abstract shapes with inspiring color gradients. With great enthusiasm, the artist uses all painting techniques and materials such as ash, lime, earth, wax, and combines them all, creating unique works of art.

Constantina Seracin

The female figures in Constantina Seracin’s works appear feminine and graceful. The artist passionately wants to depict the diversity of women in her art. Thanks to her modern painting style, her “Cleopatra” no longer appears so dusty and distant, but highly emancipated and contemporary.
